A ROYAL CELEBRATION

All the talk this week has been about the King’s Coronation so it was fitting that Naval College, who was bred and raced by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, won his first race in Australia.
Naval College was imported to Australia earlier this year and was given to Annabel Neasham to train. He took to the Australian ways very quickly which impressed Annabel and her team.
He had his Australian debut on 25th April where he ran a very impressive second, only beaten 0.13 lengths. He soon righted that when he lined up at Kensington this week. Off the back of his first run he started favourite and with the perfect ride by apprentice Jett Stanley he was never in doubt.
Annabel said after “Looks like he has loads of upside” and “He’s pretty smart”. Very nice words coming from someone who has trained some ‘pretty smart’ horses in her short time training.
Naval College will now just be taken through his grades with his next start likely to be back at Randwick on the 27th May over 2000m. Having won over 2400m in the UK prior to coming to Australia the 2000m and even longer will be more suited to his style of racing but to already have a win on the board is a plus and we look forward to his future in Australia.
